Synopsis
The show focuses on the Polie Family, who live in a teapot-shaped house in a geometric world (Planet Polie) populated by robot-based characters. The stories revolve around a young robot named Olie learning life lessons and going on wacky adventures (either real or imaginative) while growing up. These often include his little sister Zowie, his inventor father, his hard-working mom, his fun-loving grandfather Pappy, and his dog Spot. Although most of the main cast is composed of circular bots, other characters are featured in other shapes, such as Olie's friend Billy Bevel and his family, who are square-shaped bots from Planet Cubey.
Characters
- Olie Polie – A robot boy and the show's main character. He is very friendly, inquisitive, and loves his family and friends.
- Zowie Polie – Olie's younger sister, Gizmo's niece, Pappy's granddaughter and Mom and Dad's daughter. She is also very inquisitive (The episode But Why?, for example, has her keep on annoying the family by asking 'Why?' about everything imaginable) and loud. She loves Olie and enjoys emulating him, sometimes to Olie's chagrin, too. Her name is actually pronounced like the name 'Zoey' instead of like the word 'zowie' (which rhymes with Howie).
- Spot – Spot is Olie's faithful dog. As revealed in the episode But Why?, he was given his name because he left a 'spot' on the carpet as a puppy.
- Mr. Percy Polie – Olie and Zowie's father and Pappy's second son. He is an inventor, similar to G2 Droid from Star Tours, whose various inventions frequently get out of hand and gets him and the family into trouble.
- Mrs. Polina Polie – Olie and Zowie's mother. She is a homemaker.
- Pappy Polie – Percy and Gizmo's father and Olie and Zowie's grandfather. He runs a farm by himself and is best known for his unruly dentures.
- Billy Bevel – Olie's best friend. He lives next door. He is a cube shaped boy who, along with his family, is originally from Planet Cubey.
- Gizmo Polie – Olie and Zowie's uncle who is also Mr. Polie's brother and Pappy's older son. He rides a motorcycle named Motorboy, and he also has an Elvis Presley like impression.
- Aunt Polieanna – Olie and Zowie's great aunt and Pappy's sister who appears in The Baby Bot Chase and in Season 6.
- Baxter and Bonita Jaquita Bevel – Billy's parents. Baxter wears glasses and has a surprisingly deep laugh, despite having a somewhat high-pitched voice. Bonita is an accomplished dancer and acts similar to her husband. They are friends of Mr. and Mrs. Polie.
- Space Boy – A young super-hero and star of Olie's favorite TV show Space Boy. Along with his companion Space Dog, he frequently saves the universe from various threats on his show, and occasionally appears to help out Olie. Both Space Boy and Space Dog resemble Olie and Spot, with the main difference being that Space Boy and Space Dog are blue and silver, and Olie and Spot are yellow and brown.
- Coochie and Coo Polie – Olie and Zowie's adopted baby brother and sister. They first appeared in the movie The Baby Bot Chase and the Season 6 episodes.
- Binky Bevel – Billy's baby brother. His head has the ability to spin when his belly button is pressed in. He is best friends with Zowie. At first, Zowie was jealous of Binky and did not want to get along with him. But soon they became friends.
- Screwy – A new kid in town, specifically being a lugnut. In his early appearances, Screwy acts as a bully towards Olie and his friends; one episode had Olie actually driven to punch him. However, Screwy quickly became a member of the gang.
- Polly Pi – A red-haired female classmate and friend of Olie and Billy. She first appeared in the Valentine's Day–themed episode Looove Bug, where she moves into Polieville, and Olie and Billy, who compete with each other for Polly's affections, immediately fell in love (via being bitten by the Love Bug) with her until they bumped into Mr. Polie. Polly owns a pink poodle named Fifi.
- Wheelie – An older kid with a single wheel instead of legs due to the fact of him being a 'Roll Bot.' He is very athletic and acts as a sort of mentor towards Olie and Billy.
- Dicey – Billy's pet cat. She is often chased by Spot. She is an orange cat with a body that, as her name implies, resembles two dice.
- Mrs. Ethel Triangle – Olie's teacher. She has a triangular hairstyle, body and, earrings.
- Big Gene Green and Little Gene Green – Two aliens from the Little Green Planet who accidentally crash–landed on Polieville and befriended Olie and his family. They reappear when Olie and his dad visit their planet, only to find it much too small for their comfort. They are notable for the way they often 'backward speak' sentences similar to Yoda.
- Chuck Squarey – A pop musician who, like the Bevells, is from Planet Cubey. His song and dance, 'The Twirl,' is a major hit around the galaxy. He is apparently friends with his fans, the Bevels and the Polies.
- Klanky Klaus – The show's equivalent of Santa Claus, he lives on his own planet, Chillsville.
- Gloomius Maximus – An evil space pirate who can stop the fun, and make the universe gloomy. He is the main villain in The Great Defender of Fun and makes a few appearances on the show during Season 6 as reformed character.

He is voiced by actress Kristin Fairlie. Throughout the series, he has grown somewhat, as his voice is slightly deeper, and he doesn't take naps as often. He is the only character whose parents are shown with the exception of Ducks mother in one show. Little Bear lives in a stucco, timber, plaster, and brick house. He is always kind and loves to explore. He and all his other animal friends are, and always play barefoot and without clothes, while the adult characters such as Mother and Father Bear are usually seen wearing shoes and clothes. Despite this, He has worn clothes on certain occasions, like a scarf and winter hat when the weather is cold, a fishing hat when taken fishing or hiking, and finally on one occasion a black dress suit with a red necktie and black shoes. Mother Bear - Mother Bear is Little Bear's mother. She seems to enjoy cooking and is always there to help Little Bear if he needs it. She also seems to be very tidy and does not like it when the house becomes messy. She normally wears a pink shirt and a blue skirt with a white apron. Owl - Owl is someone who is sometimes pompous, but very wise. He lives in a treehouse. Although Owl enjoys fun games, he'll only participate if the gameplay is sensible. Reading is his hobby. Duck - Duck is a domesticated duck with yellow feathers, an orange beak and a long neck. Slow and smart at the same time, Duck is one who gets herself into comical situations. She lives in a nest, although in one episode, she expressed longing for a house and tried to live in a house boat. It floated downriver filled with frogs and Duck lived happily in her nest. She loves playing 'princess' and pretend. She was hatched in a nest of chicks, because 'some eggs got mixed up', and Little Bear taught her to fly when she was a duckling. She eventually has her own ducklings, the youngest named Little Peep. Hen - Hen is a fussy, feisty chicken who lives in a large chicken coop. She is classy and sophisticated and enjoys cleanliness, though her several nieces and nephews often mess up her spotless house. However, she never turns down the opportunity for fun. Hen has also been shown to be fond of opera, but it seems that she isn't good at it. Cat - Cat is a laid back, slothful feline who enjoys prowling at night, playing tricks on passersby, and eating. When he and his friends must get to a certain place in the woods, Cat often leads them through one of his shortcuts. Mermaid - Mermaid is a mermaid who Little Bear occasionally meets when he goes to the lake, she is friendly and takes Little Bear to see places underwater. Father Bear - Father Bear is Little Bear's father and Mother Bear's husband and brother. His occupation is a fisherman and sometimes takes Little Bear out fishing. He has been to many places and likes to keep things that are old, even if they have to be thrown away. He usually wears a blue suit with a purple tie and brown shoes. Frog - Frog is a frog that dispenses zen-like wisdom between his meditations. Grandfather Bear - Grandfather Bear is Little Bear's grandfather and Father Bear and Mother Bear's father. He once worked at a circus with his wife and sister. He wears a green suit but with khakis and a dark-red tie with brown shoes. Grandmother Bear - Grandmother Bear is Little Bear's grandmother and Father Bear and Mother Bear's mother, and Grandfather Bear's wife and sister. She likes to cook and tell stories. Emily - Emily is Little Bear's seven-year-old friend. She and her Granny, who she stays with when visiting Little Bear in the Summer, are the only Humans in the show. Emily carries around a doll named Lucy everywhere she goes and is very attached to her. Emily gave Little Bear Lucy when she was leaving her Granny's house to go back to school. Little Bear, though he would miss Emily greatly, gave Lucy back to Emily. Lucy - Lucy is a doll who belongs to Emily. She has short blond hair and wears a red dress and bonnet with brown shoes. In one episode, Lucy fell from a tree and her porcelain arm was broken. Little Bear fixed it with tape. Another time, Duck sat on Lucy mistakenly and they had a funeral, where she was proved to be 'alive' in the end. Emily is the only one who can 'understand' and 'talk' to Lucy. Otters - Four silly siblings that appeared in a few episodes resided in the local river. No Feet - No Feet is a friendly, gentle and green snake (hence the name) that lives in Mother Bear's garden. Rusty Bear - Rusty is Father Bear's younger brother. He mentions that he lives in the woods, and that he would prefer to live there because it is quiet and peaceful. He is a very big bear, slightly taller and huskier than Father Bear. He has a deep voice, wears overalls, and has a red handkerchief around his neck. He is seen in only a few of the Little Bear episodes. Little Bear is fascinated with Rusty's outdoor ethic, and whenever he shows up, Little Bear is tempted to emulate his rustic character. Granny - Emily's Granny, who she lives with in the summer and then permanently, has traveled the world and has many odd pieces of furniture. She is the owner of Tutu. Tutu - Tutu is Granny's dog. She acts very hyper and she can understand humans. According to Granny, she only speaks French, yet she understands English. Little Ick - Little Ick is a baby raccoon and only appears in an episode where his mother went to visit his grandmother and dropped him off with Mother Bear. Little Bear and Little Ick form a bit of a sibling relationship together like Little Bear feeling left out because Mother Bear seems to be paying more attention to Little Ick. Little Ick also causes sorts of trouble for Little Bear. Little Ick is the baby raccoon's nickname from Little Bear because 'Ick' is the only thing the baby can say. Mitzi - Mitzi is a mischievous, sometimes rather unthoughtful monkey who lives in a tree house in the forest around Little Bear's home. She feels bad after slighting somebody's feelings or misleading them (as when she played for keeps by declaring 'keepsies' too fast to be understood, and won all of Little Bear's marbles). Marshmallow - Marshmallow is a baby white skunk. She is 'adopted' by Owl and Little Bear in an episode and plays with Duck, Little Bear, Owl, and Cat in the episode 'Little Footprints. Cub - Cub only appears in The Little Bear Movie. He is a wild dark brown bear who lives in the wilderness with his parents. Unlike Little Bear, he walks more on all fours than upright, though he does walk on two paws. He can sometimes be a bit mean, but he becomes a good friend of Little Bear.
